William Boyd Rankin is a former right-arm fast-medium bowler who has played international cricket for Ireland and was briefly associated with the England cricket team. He was born on July 5, 1984, and is the brother of cricketer David Rankin. He is the first player since Nawab Pataudi to play for and against England. He played for Ireland from 2007 to 2012. He made his international debut in 2007 in One Day International (ODI) cricket against Bermuda. He made his T20 International debut in 2009 for Ireland against Bangladesh. In 2012, he parted ways with the Ireland cricket team and joined the England cricket team. He made his debut in international Test cricket for England in 2014 against Australia. In 2016, he returned back to the Ireland cricket team. In 2018, Rankin made his debut in Test cricket for Ireland against Pakistan and took the first wicket for Ireland in a Test match. In 2020, Rankin played his last ODI series for Ireland against West Indies. The same year he played his last Test match for Ireland against his former team England. Between 2007 and 2020, Rankin played 75 ODI matches and took 106 wickets. Between 2014 and 2019, Rankin played three Test matches and took eight wickets. He announced his retirement in May 2021, from all forms of cricket.
